Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's departure the family, it was managed by her grandmother, mom, and godparents. When she was a little girl, Catherine Ford struggled with an obsessive compulsive disorder, and also suffered from anxiety due to the word association. Ford began to be fascinated by acting as a teenager and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a month, she decided that it wasn't for her. Ford later applied for a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. A classmate of hers was Shaun Dingwall, who would later have a recurring role as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford didn't finish her studies in 1993. In 1991, however, Ford had made her first appearance on TV in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate was on television in the Nineties in shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate also regularly worked in the theatre, and later joined The Royal Shakespeare Company during its season between 2000 and 2001. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedies that were added to her selection in the year 1996.
